There is no single best CNG kit, only the kit that suits a particular vehicle and the way it is used. The right choice comes from a handful of practical questions about the engine, the daily distance, the space available and the support behind the product. This guide walks through them in the order an assessment usually does.
1. Start with the engine
The fuel system decides the type of kit. Modern petrol cars with multi-point fuel injection are normally matched with sequential injection systems, which time gas delivery to each cylinder. Older or carburetted engines may call for different solutions. Diesel engines are a separate case and are not converted with a standard petrol-to-CNG kit.
Engine condition matters as much as engine type. A conversion will not fix worn components, so a vehicle with existing running problems should be repaired first.
2. Size the cylinder to your daily range
Cylinder capacity is a trade-off between distance on gas and the space the cylinder takes up, usually in the boot. Think about your typical daily distance and how often you pass a CNG station. A cylinder that comfortably covers a normal day avoids constant refuelling; an oversized one costs space and weight you may not need.
3. Check approval for your vehicle
Ask whether the kit is approved for your make and model, and what documentation comes with the installation. In India, CNG kits and their installation are covered by the AIS-024 and AIS-028 standards. Your RTO can confirm what is needed to record the conversion on your vehicle’s registration.
4. Look beyond the hardware
Two kits with similar specifications can be very different to own. Before deciding, ask:
- Who will calibrate the system to your engine, and how is it tested before handover?
- Where will the vehicle be serviced, and are spare parts for this kit easy to get?
- What warranty applies to the kit and to the installation, and who handles a claim?

Every one of these factors is specific to the vehicle, which is why compatibility and cost are best confirmed after an inspection rather than quoted over the phone. You can book a consultation with our team, or send us a kit enquiry and we will point you in the right direction.
